#reviews"Leah's Pony", by Elizabeth Friedrich, illustrated by Michael Garland

"One of our favorite new children's books in the Polk County Library in Columbus is "Leah's Pony", by Elizabeth Friedrich, illustrated by Michael Garland. This book is special to us for many reasons. First of all, it is a remarkable story, beautifully illustrated, about a young girl living through the Great Dust Bowl of the 1930's. Leah's love and sacrifice for her family is truly inspiring.

Secondly, this book was donated to the Children's Collection in memory of Mrs. Hope C. Robinson. Mrs. Robinson passed away in Iowa early this year. Her son, Greg, a teacher at Polk County High School and daughter-in-law, Cathy, a circulation assistant at Polk County Public Libary, wanted a fitting tribute to the Iowa farm girl and public school teacher, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who treasured her home and family above all else.

They knew she would be pleased with "Leah's Pony".

Please stop by and see this beautiful new addition to our Children's Collection.

Like a child stepping out of a protective home, Alexa learns that although she felt safer within the walls, the new land holds adventure and promise.
